First Stages (2004-2006)
The Pamplona Sevens was born in 2004 with the intention of giving Navarra Rugby an annual date for our sport lovers. Originally focused on clubs and fans from Navarra, it soon received support from clubs and friends from all over. The initial set up was difficult but enthusiasm, hardwork and sponsors support has made this tournament an important event on the sevens tournament schedule in spain.
Right from the beginning, there has been continual support from teams like the basques from Bera Bera Sevens and Gexto RT.
Other participants from that area include:the Navarra selection ,the Pamplona selection, US Nafarroa and Baztan RT. Still without foreign promotion ,third half conversations sharing beers after a game have spread the word and ensured the participation of teams from even further afield: Quesos Entrepinares (Valladolid), Oeiras RC (Portugal), University of Bayona, Total Pau and even The France selection crossed the Pyrennes to participate. FC Barcelona and the Almogavers XV sailed the course of the river Ebro from Catalunya to enjoy the tournament in 2005.
Breaking Barriers (2007)
In this second stage we see a jump forward in the structural changes of the tournament.
The dates of the tournament coincide with the world famous San Fermin festival. This undoubtable attraction helped to popularise the tournament.
The launching of the website provided the necessary information to the clubs and fans all over the world.
A pact with the Ayuntamiento de Egüés garanteed superb installations for the tournament. Aswell as our friends from the first tournament we received: Bouge ton Coeur (a selection of outstanding players from Toulouse), Samurais, a strong level guest team made up of Catalans and the sevens from Elche RC and the Vila Rugby both from East Spain. Also for the first time The Bull Runners 7 an invitational team based on individuals from all over.
